I have found another coin in my collection that I have trouble with identification. Silver, diameter c.a. 17mm, I have no scale so I cant tell you the weight, but it looks like drachma. Av. Horseman looking back. Rev Cat, lioness or its skin. Coin has odd sign on this "cat" head. It looks like countermark. Picture below. Unfortunately, my camera and ability to taking pictures are terrible so picture is not sharp. Thanks for all help in advance.
My first thought was that it is from Cilicia, uncertain city. My second thought is that it is some type of fantasy/fake. I really don't know what it is though.
That's still more than I would have guessed! Now if you want to talk about Siliquae then I'm your man
If it is authentic, I'd guess it is from somewhere in Asia Minor. Searching using key words will be difficult since it's hard to tell exactly what that reverse figure is. OP, if you have the time and energy you might want to look through each image on asiaminorcoins.com.
I'm not at all sure, but try Aspendos. Some of these here are quite ferociously countermarked: https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...s=1¤cy=usd&thesaurus=1&order=0&company=
It's a drachm of Aspendos. They are often heavily countermarked. BTW, the 'cat' is actually a boar, but yours is a bit crude as is typical for the type. You may be surprised but its worth about $200. I am sure you can google the exact reference number, I am too lazy to get a book off the shelf!
WOW!! Great work @zumbly and @Ken Dorney !!! I never would have guessed the 'cat' was a boar.... Now that 'glorious mess' should be something @dougsmit should appreciate.
Thanks for help. I knew that I find there right people. Now I will try to find more about that amazing cat-o-boar.
