I understand a "business model" and the concept of "time/money." Fortunately for collectors there is one second tier TPGS that does not follow this business model. I know they contact customers on a daily basis to improve many of their coins at no additional charge (in order to raise the grade) before they are finalized!
No kidding. That is why slabs stink. Everyone suddenly is held hostage to the opinions of two people. Thanks for reaffirming one of the main detriments to the hobby. The blind hypocrisy is astounding. No need for anyone to apologize on my behalf. I mean what I say. I won't shrink from my stance.
I'm glad you said "usually" as Barry admits to taking a "fingernail" to it. BTW Welcome to FL. Congratulations on the NGC position. David and the company are A-1! I'm VERY jealous.
Here is something to consider. When one, two, or three TPG's give an opinion on a coin and it is slabbed and sent out...EVERY collector, dealer, or ignorant nobody (Me ) gets to comment on it. When a TPGS makes a mistake, they hear about it one way or another. For example, I contacted someone at NGC as soon as I came upon this thread. Ancient collectors may not like slabs but they are here to stay! PS It's nice to read opinions on CT; however, virtually nobody outside this little "world of chats" cares what you, me, or any member here thinks. .
@Insider I mean this with no disrespect and am asking just out of curiosity: Do you collect ancient coins? I can't say that I've ever seen you post on any of my threads or anyone else's for that matter. Though I could have just forgotten about you!
NONE TAKEN! We are all (except the "regulars" here) just typed words in black until I use color for clarity and drive others crazy. NO, not any more. I do have a few very nice ones. You'll need to trust me on that as I do not plan to dig them out, take photos, and post them to prove anything. Furthermore, as I have posted before I am virtually ignorant when it comes to identifying City States, Emperor's, and denominations of these coins. I collected specimens for their artistic merit only. So, while I like to examine ancients, see what others collect, and read about them; I very seldom post on ancient threads. Every important ancient collector/dealer I've known is either dead, not active, very "long-of-tooth," or I've lost track of them as the last show I attended was in the World Trade Center! I will say this: I have been known to tell a fake from a geuine piece in my career. Read Post#34.
No disrespect; but ALSO OUT OF CURIOSITY ???????????????????????????? In what way? Are you going to do a TV show on ancient coins?
No disrespect intended but your idea is either a joke (and I missed it) or it is not a joke. In either case, I guess you will need to stay curious for now. You will just have to trust me. I know that sounds fair to you, since you proposed it first.
Apropos of nothing much, at a glance I read the title as "fast cake" instead of "cast fake." My next thought was thanks, but it's too damn hot for cake at any speed.
