I bought this coin, haven't received it yet but I wanted to upload some pics. and hope I can get some opinions. This coin is not graded by a professional grading company but by the original owner who has had decades of experience so he graded it as "Gem Proof". The pictures aren't that great but hopefully you can see enough.
I also have this coin I'm not sure of from the same seller as above he has graded it as "1863 Indian Head Cent - uncirculated - Choice/Gem Mint state 64. Hope the Pics. are ok.
The 1889 lll one of only 3436 minted is a nice looking specimen from the images provided. 1889 is a low mintage any way in MS as well. As for owing it for decades and not having it graded puzzles me. The two die cracks at 12k and 2 are common in this series . Your IHC is another nice pick up again having a quality coin not graded puzzles me. The reason I state this is that graded both would bring a higher premium than raw.
Paddy54 I totally agree with you. He has numerous coins that I believe should have been graded. Seance I now own them that is what I'll do however I have never sent in a coin for grading and am not sure how to do it. To me the submittion forms are a little confusing. Do you have any thoughts about that?
Make some friends here .....as some members here do offer a piggy back on their submitions. Or you could join and get 5 free as a member . This can be an issue if some of the coins are higher value. As most times they limit the coins value on the free sumittions. I will warn you if you are buying raw high dollar specimens be careful in doing so unless you are sure what you're buying . Even us old timers have and can be fooled .
I know Anacs around my parts often comes to coin shows and advises and helps filling out the forms . At larger shows the larger TPG'S also offer help and by sending in this way most times you only pay shipping one way.
You may want to check out the 1863 date closely as I can't tell from the images but you may have a RPD
I've been reading allot on RPD coins and found they are quite common in this era even to 1908 especially with the red type coins however I haven't been able to find anything to compare mine to so I'll have to leave it up to you all. Any feedback is appreciated.
