What's the possibility of the Memorial being terminated in favor of the Shield ? Anyone heard a rumor ?

I took a poll in my office area and the results were: 0% shield, 0% memorial, 100% get back to work.

Newer Lincolns must not be circulating in his area.

If you're a betting man, put money on it. Also pick Green Bay to beat the spread against KC in Super Bowl I.

Frankly a sure bet is Nyquist in the Kentucky Derby.

It may be old news but then how long is it going to take before people realize a lot of the memorials are scarce in nice condition?

Maybe after the pennies are all melted and the zincs are poured off the top it will dawn on people that nice zincs can be pretty tough in their solid form.

    How do you define scarce?

Of course, except in the very highest grades all the memorials are "common". But there are several dates that are acrtually quite elusive in just nice attractive condition. Try finding a nice gemmy (MS-64+) 1984 with nice surfaces for instance! I'd be surprised ifd there are a couple thousand in existence but people aren't looking for them. Registry collectors seek high grade coins and overlook the bad surfaces. 1968-P's without carbon spots are quite elusive. This used to be a very common date in Gem and better because of mint sets but now they all have spots. How about the ultra common '74-S sm dt? People don't collect moderns and all the mint set coins are lg dts.

Ya' don't know what you'll see until ya' look and there ain't nobody looking. Prices are low because there is essentially no demand.

...And no one seems to care about the mint sets either. About .2% of '88-D's look like branch mint proofs. There are PL's all through these sets.

    Hi !

Ok, some of you have had your fun with me. :shame: Obviously, I was ignorant of the following (colored red, copied & pasted below).

This is for the benefit of a few more folks out there who, like me, didn't know that the Lincoln cent is no longer being minted with the Memorial reverse !

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Penny (United States coin):

From 1959 (the sesquicentennial of Lincoln's birth) to 2008, the reverse featured the Lincoln Memorial. Four different reverse designs in 2009 honored Lincoln's 200th birthday and a new, "permanent" reverse – the Union Shield – was introduced in 2010.

Thanks to all who reply to this thread.

Well it probably won't change again in my lifetime, that's permanent enough. They may go away (hopefully) but not change.
