This went for over 700 with the juice on Heritage last night. Anybody know why? Cool doubling on the letters at 12 o clock of the reverse and tons of die cracks. Maybe that's just a tough date to find rainbow toned? Is it worth what it sold for? (Heritage images)
Toned coins give my wallet the heebie-jeebies, especially Morgans. I like looking at them but as far as toned coins go, I own a grand total of three, purchased from two trusted dealers. None is a Morgan, though I collect Morgans.
One in the green 90s ogh in 65 sold on ebay for $170. I have absolutely no clue why this one went for so much. It is a top pop for vam 11 so maybe registry? But the $170 one was top pop too so that can't be it. Had to be the color but I'm dumbfounded and might just need to consign some toners to heritage That type of toning is maybe a double premium, not 5x!? So I'm clueless as to the hammer price but hey, that's what an auction is all about. Maybe 2 bidders needed to have it and one got scared off when it got to a 4x premium? I surely wouldn't have paid that for that color. Top pop v11 or not
Just a pure guess here but, maybe the guy thought he saw a slam dunk ms66.... Looks close, and I've recently purchased under graded Morgan's in OGH so I know they are still out there
I don't think that's it but who knows. It only takes 2 bidiots to make a seller happy. Ebay auction #... 371628569476
IMO, possible w/reverse; but no way the obverse which is not fully struck and large contact marks in PFA. MS-65 was a stretch. Color & eye appeal pulled this MS-64.8 to a MS-65.1.
The coins being passed off as MS65 today look waaaay worse than this one!!! Just one hillbillies point of view I guess... But yes, I still can't give a valid reason why there was a $500 markup on this one. Maybe I should start running my toned coins thru Heritage instead of the Flea Market
Bidiots I don't find the toning particular appealing I've had better 99-o toners I've sold for far less. To me that coin is a solid 65 but the cheek hit keeps it no higher to me it's. $200-250 coin
