I religiously stalk newly listed eBay auctions and this is literally a 1 in a lifetime buy.

Honestly I'm baffled. Why would they assign a problem free grade to that coin? I mean, I figured I'd get an UNC Details then auction it off for $250 max. Now someone's going to pay $500-600 for it all because of the holder. I guess I should hope that the edge view prong is covering the corrosion?

If it'll make you feel better, perhaps someone will come along and poo poo about how terrible NGC is for dropping the ball... ;)

Congrats, sir. The find is indeed a fine example of how opportunity does exist for those willing to actually work for it.

I guess if PCGS nukes the other 8 coins, I'll send em all to NGC now. :woot:

Yep - and we have seen several threads around here about problem coins in PCGS and NGC holders that ARE NOT identified as problem coins. Just another reason to buy the coin and not the holder, but we all know what happens in the end. Nice score.

Here's the final pic of that now NGC MS62 Flying Eagle. I did a little more work on it with acetone before sending it in, then snapped this photo.

Pretty much says it all. I know 99% of the coin looks great, but good God...

So... has anyone done the math? What is the estimate on what these babies are worth?

Well, I sold the VF one on eBay for $51. The other 7 just graded with PCGS yesterday. I got 3 AU58's, 2 AU55's, and 2 MS62's. Then I got this NGC MS62. I figure I can get $595 each for the UNC's, $360 each for the 58's, and $260 each for the 55's.

Also, I already sold 2 of the 1908-S Indian cents for $58 & $66. The other 3 graded XF45, F12, and F12. Those 3 will probably sell for about $285 total. The other 17 common date Indian Cents were auctioned off and sold for a total of about $60. :)
