Inspired by Steve's "Coin and Music" thread, I thought one featuring books and coins would be welcomed too.

    The coin:

    Titus
    AR Denarius
    Rome Mint, 24 June-1 July 79 AD
    RIC 1 (R), BMC 1, RSC 334a

    The book:

    locadio.jpg

Locadio's Apprentice by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

I have a keen interest in YA historical fiction set in ancient Rome ever since reading The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff many years ago. My current read is Locadio's Apprentice - the story of a young boy who wants to be a physician and soon has his new skills put to the test during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The setting is the reign of Titus.

Please post your Favourite books and coins!

My choice for a coin should not be much of a surprise.
    As for a book...

One more. Although the coin has nothing to do with the book other than they are both Medieval. Great read, good author.

If you haven't read Perelandra, do it now. You don't have to read the series (you will). I read this first during a preceptorial on evil as an undergrad.

Much like coins it's hard to pick "one" favorite and these threads would be less fun if we were limited to one.

This book was recommended to me by one of my most favorite teachers after seeing me read Vonnegut. I don't know if he ever knew how much I looked forward to his class and how much he influenced me.

Like the 'Favourite Coin and Song' thread it should be of the moment, otherwise as you said, it would be less fun (and much shorter!).

I don't have a favorite coin or favorite book but here are two of my "temporary faves": one of the best books I've read recently and one of my favorite coins:
