I got lucky at the casino

A couple of weekends ago, it was Saturday evening and I had to do laundry. All the banks were closed and Walmart and other stores don't like giving out change. I thought to myself "who could I get quarters from this late?" and I thought "the casino!" I quickly found the cashier's booth and asked the guy for $30 in quarters. He opened his drawer and pulled out a huge handful of quarters and I spotted it immediately just be looking at the edge. I didn't want to get my hope up in case this was a false positive so I thought to myself that it might not have been silver in the first place. When he put the quarters into the sorting machine, it jammed up several times. Whether this was from a particular quarter or if the machine always jammed is not known. The machine counted out $30 worth of quarters and the cashier gave me a handful of them and it was lying right on the top of the pile of clad pieces: a 1958-D quarter. This makes the second silver quarter that I have found in the last few months, as I found a 1936 in a Coinstar machine. It's funny. I don't gamble. I don't even play Powerball or buy lottery tickets. Not of any moral objection - I just don't enjoy it and I don't want to blow my meager wages on gambling. I left the casino with more than I entered it with, so I guess that's a plus. Maybe I should have put $20 in a slot machine because I had good luck that night.

Nice find! You can also get change from the car wash or Laundromat bill changers. ;)

I have never found a silver quarter, I found lots of silver dimes and half dollars, but the quarters seem much more elusive. Great find!

I have received silver in change, but not for decades... the last silver coin that popped out of a vending machine for me was a silver dime sometime in the early 1990s. Nil since then.

It's a good thing you didn't gamble that night. Luck only goes so far in a casino. You may have exhausted all of it with the silver find. :D

Free silver is one of the finer things in life, like a well built sports car, an aged wine, or a juicy black Angus steak from a steer who was raised on high quality grains and the nectar of the gods. When I find an interesting coin in circulation, I have a giddy feeling for a couple of days afterwards and I have a warm, fuzzy feeling. Free silver is awesome.
