What is going on with Sac dollar?

The coinage situation in this country has officially gone crazy. I was reading a coin mag yesterday and I started to understand what is going on with the Sac dollar, in case you do not know: the mint is REQUIRED to mint 1/3 the TOTAL number of sac dollars as the COMBINED amount of all 4 president dollars. No one uses these coins, they will just sit in a warehouse somewhere (there are already 100's of millions of 2000 and 2001 coins in storage). Now they may try putting various reverses on the sac dollar and that will further water down the already watered down set of mint offerings.
    lets see:
    5 quarters PDSS
    4 pres dollars PDS
    1 dime PDSS
    1 nick PDS
    1 cent PDS
    1 half PDSS
and possibly 4 additional dollars PDS

I agree the mint has become a money hungry business and is no longer just the supplier of our nations coinage.

I do enjoy the many variations, I just wish the designs would improve! You would think with so many "historical" designs they would include a couple of the "historical" Coin designs or reworking of them....

I might add, I Loved the 2005 Bison Nickel!!!

Agreed. Let's keep national symbols on the coins, like the bison and the eagle. Do I hear turkey anyone?

What about the groundhog, the prairie dog,or the beaver? I think you can find beavers in America, even though they're mostly found in Canada.

The Mint is bound to the laws passed by Congress. If you do not approve of current coinage, write your Congressman to complain, and tell them you will not vote for them again. Do not bash the Mint, they only do what they are told.
