Passion Fading

I guess it comes and goes, but I've found myself pretty uninterested in numismatics lately; so much so that I barely even participate here very often. I've thought of a few reasons why this may be, but I don't really know the answer. I've recently completed my date set of braided hair large cents, I just moved and have other priorities at the moment, work has been brutal with the decline in oil prices, started seeing a new girl.... And so on and so on. Maybe I just need to find a new set to work on, I don't know. I mean do I really need to purchase a coin to appreciate the hobby? It's never been my problem before and I don't buy all that many coins in any given given year and really focus on a few that are on my want list. I hope the passion comes back soon, I kind of miss you guys. Has this ever happened to you?

Me either, but my total lack of focus prevents me from ever completing a set or a series...a blessing in disguise.

I'm with Kentucky on this one, working on too many sets at once.

I know my interest in coins ebbs and flows from time to time. I may go a year without really caring about 'em but then I see/hear/etc. something that re-triggers the collecting interest. I guess coin collecting is kind of like shingles, where you could go a while without any "outbreak" but then something happens that brings it back out. Just like shingles, once you get the collecting bug you ain't gettin' rid of it!!

I find if I'm not actively adding to or building my collection (generally due to lack of funds) stagnancy can set in. Checking out CT and other forums, reading what other enthusiasts are buying/thinking does kinda keep you interested tho'. Also, my work is somewhat seasonal, so I slack off coins through spring, summer, & fall and am usually ready to get fired up during the winter.

Modern or classic rendition? Definitely hotter than any modern interpretation I've seen.

Maybe just too many irons in the fire right now? I get somewhat burned out every now and then, especially with so much roll searching but I usually bounce back. When this happens, I switch up, take out my metal detector or other tools and go bottle digging or Treasure Hunting.

Same here. Why I'm only buying for resale and haven't bought a thing for myself since November. Lack of funds due to as well.

Speaking of. Maybe that's an idea. For you. The early bust dollars I was starting them when I got distracted by trade dollars. For I ever complete my trade dollar set they're next

Yes, this has happened to me. A few times. My coin fanaticism tends to wax and wane depending on what life dishes out. Now and then I also get the feeling that I could put my money to better use. Well, I can. Coins are generally not a great investment, as my past adventures in selling taught me. So I'll buy some, enjoy the experience thoroughly, then one day suddenly say "enough" and take a break for a year or two. I'm trying to pace myself better so I don't have such dramatic stops and starts, but that's what seems to happen every time. Hm. So I can sympathize.

I've been thinking about doing an XF ish set of Bust halves; dollars would be tough with the oil economy the way it is right now. My quarterly commission went from the mid five figures to three figures last two quarters and I just bought a house.

Yeah I can understand that. My girlfriends fathers business is really hurting now too. They do pressure relief systems for oil refineries and chemical plants me I've been taking too much time off too so I've been having the shorts a bit as well
