pardon my ignorance, but what is the error? I get its the rim - the smoothness?

 

Partial collar strike

 

It's a collar error, that makes it look like a train wheel .

 

I'd like to see a clear photo of the edge taken from straight on. It doesn't look like it to me.

Rick, can you take the picture straight on the rim? It'd be easier to see if it were a partial collar strike. This is how I took the picture of a dime I found:

 

I'll re-shoot it when my wife goes to her doctor appointment, at 11 o'clock ..

 

I can say this much, the clad on the rim is gone and all that left, is the copper showing on the rim ...
