Aside from being a tad 'high' in price, how could something like this happen? Mint employees working the after hours shift?

You should also check some of the other errors he has listed......I think someone was sending these out the door in the bottom of their shoes or something. He has a lot of strong errors listed, some just baffling as to how they made it past the mints door.

I think a rational explanation of how this could happen would be a requirement before consideration at any price.

Someone dropped or threw a 41 quarter into the striking line? Or just wanted to make one lol

He seems to be liquidating. This makes me a bit nervous for him.

    I couldn't get $35 excited about it.

That's very cool. Double struck over a 29 year old Canadian coin of the same denomination. Imo its more neat than one singly struck on a planchet intended for producing foreign coins, but the very notion leaves the aftertaste of a "mint assist" less overpowering than the dime on nail, but still smacking of illegitimacy.

You suppose if the TPGs rejected these "mint assists" it would reduce the incentive for monkeyshines?

Of course we would have to get on board such entities as Heritage Auctions, which sold the infamous nail proudly.

How do you come to this conclusion? Despite the fact that the seller has about as many error listings in PCGS slabs, what evidence is there that ANY grading service worked in collusion with someone?

I thought 'monkeyshines' was frowned upon at the mint. Obviously it does happen, though. Didn't they (the mint) take a fellow to task (a few years) regarding presidential dollars lacking edge lettering?

I think you are looking at many years of cherrypicking the weirdest of the weird for his personal collection now up for sale.
