So, as many of you may have noticed, I have a broad collecting interest. I already collect all US coins, all pre-decimal British coins, Roman Imperial coins, and coins of the US Philippines (which I have nearly completed). I was at a shop today, just browsing around. Picked up some late Roman bronze coins for a buck, they need some work. And then, while looking through a binder of foreign coins I see something that I like. A Cuban 5 centavo.

So, I end up buying it. Along with all of the other Cuban pieces in the shop. They weren't expensive at least; I bought in low grade and he threw a discount on top. So now I'm embarking on a new collecting mission. God help me. :)

Anyone else have a similar problem?

Yeah, though it still with US coins. I was at a coin show just looking around, and it hit me, Barber coins are beautiful, aren't they? Yeah, so i blow 250 in a single day on barbers.

I keep expanding my interests too. A year ago I was only interested in U.S. coins, and picked up some foreign ones when they were dirt cheap. Now I've got a couple roman bronzes, and some colonials and greek silver are on my list of coins to buy when I replenish my collecting budget a bit.

With me,it is just British Commonwealth coins that I go for.Apart from the 5 Canadian commemorative 25c. coins that Cindy (Twiggs) sent me,I have also picked up the 9 loose coins of this year's Irish Euro coinage,as Ireland is still classed as being a British Commonwealth country anyway by numismatists.

It may be a good time to buy nice, accurately graded commemoratives. The prices have been depressed for awhile, and you never know when they will become a hot item again.

The copper bug is starting to bite me, as I'm gaining more and more interest in early US coppers.

The commemorative are expensive, but there are some really nice ones. I just got the Jamestown Silver proof and it is beautiful. :D

I've known collectors who have gone "full circle".
They began by saving odd and interesting coins from pocket change.
They graduated to buying coins and organizing a collection.
Eventually, they began to realize that the joy was not so much in ownership, but more in the study of the hobby.
Many of them don't buy anything but books now.

At first I started out with only NZ pre-decimals and American coins but as I finished the kiwi coins and the US stuff became harder and more expensive to get I started going for Canadian coins. But now after viewing some of our members posts I have decided to collect older British Indian coins. Man I must stop looking at everyones buys or this could get out of hand!! LOL ;)
