Does anyone know if Gene Hessler is still alive -- he authored "The Engraver's Line" and many other books. If so, I'm looking for contact information to send some information regarding bank note printing firms, and also ask a couple questions. You can PM me if you'd rather not publish this information on a thread. Thanks, Greg
Indeed he is.. I talk with him via email quite often at times... I would be happy to contact him in your behalf, however, I would not disclose his personal information to you. A while back he autographed several books for the Security Engravers Group when lots of people were involved.
Thanks Rick -- If you're willing to act as go-between that would be great. One thing I wanted to share was a discovery I just posted on another thread: http://www.cointalk.com/showthread.php?t=108341&p=1125911&viewfull=1#post1125911 I'll PM you with the other stuff.
Hello Rick, I am also trying to get in contact with Gene Hessler concerning his work "Extracts of the Diaries of James D. Smillie." There is a particular reference in the diaries to Smillie working on modifying a painting for the American Banknote Company for use in printing a financial instrument. I have some further information about this painting that I think Mr. Hessler may be interested in knowing, and I am hoping he might be willing to entertain some questions about Smillie's work for ABNCo. If you wouldn't mind helping me get in contact with him, I will be glad to send the information through you, if possible. Many thanks, Vanderjacht
Vanderjacht, I can put you in contact with Gene Hessler. He is no longer actively writing on banknote topics (he's in his late 80s) but would be interested in your information, I think. Please send me a private message, using the Conversations function and I'll give you more details.
gsalexan, I would also appreciate if you could contact Mr. Gene Hessler on my behalf - if possible. I am researching/co-curating an exhibition about the Czech artist and designer Alphonse Mucha and the various artisans with whom he worked in several countries. One of them was the American line engraver Mr. Robert Savage who was employed by the ABNCo in the earlier decades of the 20th century. Several Czechoslovak banknotes (not all of them designed by Mr. Mucha and engraved by Mr. Savage) were printed in USA in 1920s. For the purpose of the exhibition I would to like to obtain a good quality pictures/photographs of Mr. Savage as well as of the actual ABNCo building/workshop or the printing house in which the Czechoslovak banknotes (4 of them - 100/500/1000/5000 CzCr) were printed. The exhibition will open in June 2018 in the Bohemian town of Carlsbad/Karlovy Vary. Please let me know if you could help. Thank you very much in advance, Ondrej Tucek

Oh my a short while back I had a conversation with Steve in Tampa about a thread. I read a lot of RickieB's post and he seemed like a good guy. I did not know him but knew of him by reading what he posted. Such a shame in my opinion. RIP Rickie BTM (C)
