What are the odds of this coin being genuine? The seller is in Israel, has very little feedback, and the coin is uncertified! Bet you all just can't wait to bid on it...:headbang: http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-S-vdb-linc...1QQihZ016QQcategoryZ39456QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Wouldn't it be great if it was real? I'm not a Lincoln Cent guy...I don't know the diagnostics offhand. If it is real...it's a beauty.
to be dead honest with you i have one of these. i found it in the chest of coins i got from my grandfather. i believe i will be keeping that one. =) just for good measure how much is one of these worth? thanks guys. marksman01
hard to tell from the pic, but if real i would think that he would have slabbed it,as for feedback everyone has to start somewhere
You have to remember that not everyone can afford to get a coin shipped to the USA for slabbing, and also a lot of us dont like slabs Now I dont know if this coin is genuine or not, but before I bid on it I would request a better pic for sure.
That guy's selling some pretty valuable stuff. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZ23oferQQhtZ-1 Of course, there would be no way to confirm authenticity until you had the coins in hand.
A few things jumped out at me. First is that most of his auction are KEY dates in high grades. Did you all see the 1877 Indian, 16-D Merc, 3 legged buffalo? Now dive into that feedback of 6. ALL as a buyer and including the purchase of some common wheats. I think the toughest was a 10-S. Why would someone with BU S-VDB and 14-D be BUYING commons? Methinks something is wrong here.
A lot of folks don't like slabs... but nobody likes getting ripped off. If he can ship it to the USA for sales, he can ship it for certification. Especially a key date, high demand, high value piece like this. If it's genuine and UNC, it's well over $1,000. Bad photos, NO return policy, NO sales feedback, NO slab, on the other side of the world, high dollar... Gosh, I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but even a guy like me can read these tea leaves. Anyone who throws down $700+ under those conditions - well, good luck. Odds are poor on this one. Deal me out. Folks can hate slabs all they want; that's cool. But I think buying expensive uncertified coins sight-unseen is foolish. Slabs have dramatically improved security on sight-unseen transactions.
"Hate" has nothing to do with it. Many of us have no use for them. We got along fine before these money-making schemes, and we continue to do so.
I know the diagnostics of the 09 s vdb, if he had descent pics posted I could easily tell, but those blurry things
Not accusing this seller of theft, but it is possible the coins got to Isreal in a not so legal manner? It's one explanation - and that would make the coins real at least?? And we all know a slabbed stolen coin is worthless - but unslabbed - try and prove it was stolen. Just some food for thought. I too though - would recommend staying away buying those coins. Esky
12 HIGH dollar items on sale...all ending on the same day within a 6 hour period... Looks like a 'hit an run' to me.
Oh I quite agree I woudnt touch it with a 12 foot barge pole, I was simply pointing out that not everyone can or wants to get coins slabed, so one shoudnt assume automaticly that a coin is wrong just for that reason
I could have swore that I remember this topic awhile back, maybe not even on this board. I thought that someone in Isreal was selling similar key date coins. Anyone else have any recollection of this?
Right on. The "no slab" was only one of several indicators of this sale's hokiness. Unslabbed coins are perfectly fine, but in "sight unseen" internet settings I have had far better success with slabs.
Someone over at PCGS requested a larger picture of the coin. This is the picture they received. So, is the coin genuine.....lol?
