How could I say no for $24! She's pretty clashed up with a partial N, possible ST, possible E in hair and possible M on rev. Some nice rev lip and profile clashing at leaves and there's a raised line going through the E of ONE which doesn't line up to clashing so it's gotta be a die scratch I'm thinking (curios what others think of it).. And to top it off its the "drooling eagle" cousin to the "spitting eagle" as there is a small raised chip or dent dot coming out of the beak and a larger "drool dot" about 3-4mm below his mouth.

It also has some doubled/tripled or sextuple obv stars and date doubling which is hard to see minor variances with a 10x or 20x loupe due to the thick rim toning.

I'm having a bear of a time attributing it. Can't quite match it to any cdlt or their non clashed listings via die markers so I'm thinking it has to be an advanced die state of a vam not yet found with clashing or one with a minimal info listing or I just missed it. Think it might need to send her to @messydesk before I chuck it at some drywall :banghead::bookworm::pompous::brb::happy:

Anyway, enjoy the pics of a nice get and if anyone has some input I'd appriciate it.

Find the date doubling. Most of them start with that. No time to help, though - gotta work. :p

35 looks like a possibility. And it appears to be a c3f reverse with slight arrowhead and lower wreath leaf doubling. I kept going back to 35 yesterday actually and again this morning while blindly going down the double date list so 35 seems to be the top contender currently

Here's some pics at various angles to try and show the date doubling...

And to try to confirm the c3f reverse. As well as a better pic of the "drool" and the long die scratch at the E...

I have. None on the cdlt list match the low placement of the wing clash on the neck. The closest is 14a I believe but not quite plus the 14 marker on the eagle's left wing isn't there. I'm at that frustrated point of no return on this one. Hoping dave or messy can nail it or narrow it down or if john thinks it could be something and wants to see it. I'd love for it to be a candidate for Leroy so I can name it the "drooling eagle" lol if it gets a designation. If it is an unlisted cdlt stage of a known vam it should be a candidate I think. That said, most times I've thought I was on to something it turned our to be nothing or I missed something etc

There's a lot of vams for this year, how are the stars on the obverse, any doubling ?

Yes, some are and appear to be multi-doubled. I'm busy working from home today but I'll try to get some pics real quick. Darn coins getting in the way of actual work :p

Best I could do quickly with limited time. Thanks for the help guys :)

Left obv stars in order from 1-7

Yeah, it's nothing too special but does add a nice bit of eye appeal and for the whopping sum of $24 I was literally forced to buy it... "Twist my arm some more why don't ya" is what I told him :)

Well, if you're set on the C3f Reverse (seems reasonable), you're down to 3 VAMs - 21, 35 & 47. I think 21 is precluded because of its' more prominent doubling on the 7, which you'd have called out. So, it's up to the 8. If it has the VAM-35 doubling, it's 35 and if not, it's 47. Both have what we can see on the 9.

That's the exact conclusion I arrived at dave assuming it is c3f. Was waiting for you to confirm my logic :)

The 8 is doubled as described in 35 but the listing says top left outside and bottom right inside but mine is also doubled top right inside and bottom left outside too. I know that doesn't mean anything though as all doubled areas aren't always described. So 35 it is! (most likely)
Now, do you think, if it is 35, it has a shot of becoming a new cdlt 35a?

I have no clue what ought and/or ought not qualify as a subvariety. :)

Sure would like to see this get into John's hands - or somebody's - for definitive imaging to put that attribution to bed at VAMworld once and for all, though. I was actually hoping it for 47, which has no images at all.

I'm still bad at defining what's eligible for sub varieties too but I think this one has a shot if it is indeed a 35. I'll ping john tommorow if he doesn't chime in by then. Hopefully we have a new Drooling Eagle to go with the Spitter :)

Hey dave, any thoughts on the die scratch at the E. Have you seen many die scratches that large before? (If that is indeed what it is)... I briefly thought it was a clash that continued from the long profile clash mark line but quickly realized it couldn't a clash. Interesting if you ask me
