Considering they sold out, I would say it is VERY realistic ;)

No one stated it wasn't legal tender. YOUR definition of a coin, however, stated that a coin was minted "for use as money".

By the by, I don't consider the classic commemoratives to be coins, either. Collectable? Sure, so are gold dimes or silver/gold/platinum eagles--just not coins by your definition.

I wonder how one eBay vendor has sold 113 of them ?

It's not unreasonable to assume that someone had enough people in cahoots to have acquired that many via multiple "household limits." Wouldn't be the first time. You've probably heard joking references to "homeless people in line" around here; it's not an apocryphal reference.

In fairness to some that was the only reason to buy them lol. I'm not really sure they'd ever actually get to melt either if metal prices stayed the same as the Kennedy's have also kept a small premium over melt, but if the gold price stayed the same I do thing the premium will erode when it's not longer the hot new thing on the block.

But if someone just wants one that really is the end all be all of the argument. We can speculate on future pricing, whether or not it is the greatest thing, ever or argue if it should be part of the series until the cows come home but no one should be critical of someone who just says "I don't care, I wanted one".

It's not a joke either, I have been in those lines before at a mint store and seen it first hand.

Yea, but they sold out to greedy flippers. If it wasn't for the flippers they would still be available. Plus, they really haven't sold out....plenty on FeeBay.

I started collecting for the historic and fun part of it.I started by accumulating some coins that were obsolete as I knew someday they would go up in value .I also knew that I would never sell any but I did not exceed what my extra cash would allow me without putting me in debt. All though I did go without a little something if someone offered me coins for a reasonable price which I have had from time to time I don't collect for profit ,I am not a flipper just collect for the fun been that way for 40 plus years. I am not concerned if someone wants these gold coins or bullion of any sort ,that's what they want then so be it .I am not judging anyone's reasons for colleting anything . I do think the mint has some over priced coins, metals, and bullion .I want to wish everybody that collects as I do to just have fun collecting that's what coin collectors do. someday my collection will go to my kids and grandkids they will profit if they so choose as they are getting them free. All I can hope is at least one will continue to enjoy the coin collecting hobby as I do. So happy collecting

Umm, terrible logic. Show me where you can buy one for $205, and then you can say they are not sold out.

I bet you would sell water and batteries after a tornado....for a profit of course.

How about 299 for a PCGS First Strike 70 o_O

I agree though regardless of price they did sell out

In truth, when PCGS is willing to do things like "First Strike" it's hard to get awfully worked up about some average Joe selling a couple extra ones for profit.

Sadly, schmuck that I am, I bought 3 of these monstrosities at an exhorbitant price and for reasons known only to my dumb self I've sent them to NGC for another exhorbitant cost. Somebody please save me from myself. I have been a Mercury Dime loonie for decades and I can't resist buying anything with Mr. Weinmann's lovely head of Elsie Kachel on it. Do me something!

Since they used 75 different die pairs and we have no way of knowing how this mintage of <125k was distributed, First Strike designation doesn't make much sense. The entire mintage could be considered first strike unless the initial hours worth of production was set aside with a label. Did the dies wear that bad on 24k gold? lol I think perhaps a weakly struck example with a die crack may be more rare and collectible. Wait, there won't be any. lol

I don't blame anyone for selling them either. If they can come out ahead more power to them. I think the ones I saw were from a bigger seller though, GreatCollections had about 30 or so with a 299 buy it now, not a bad deal if someone wanted a 70 since their buy it now listings have no buyers fee. I haven't checked the ebay 70 prices in a bit though but would guess they are higher.
