Hi guys I don't want to appear to be critical, but I'm sitting here in England and marvelling at at some of your inputs. Double dies on coins only visible with 50x magnification, i e crack in one of the columns of the Lincoln Memorial. I'm not sure how many dies are the the rotary minting machines. As all of us know it is impossible to duplicate anything exactly. There will be slight variations, but to call all of them die varieties and collectable seems to stretch the imagination. I just don't see what the fuss is all about.
Glare is messing with a proper opinion of this but these are notorious for machine doubling, not doubled dies. All from 1982 throughout the mid 90's.
Glare can be lessened if you take your picts under a light with less wattage. If you personally see the doubling on the left sides of those 2 letters only, then rake the light across from 2-3 o'clock. That will cause the 2 layers to cast individual shadows. Silver coins are the worst to reflect glear, Thus , a 40 watt bulb woprks to let your digital camera do the automatic work.
While I agree with you, I still don't understand why you Brits insist on driving on the wrong side of the road. Chris
@BaconSlayer Just out of curiosity, why do you have the Texas Commem instead of Stone Mountain as your avatar? Chris
Even though there are thousands of variations on die cracks, I personally believe it is a great learning tool for YN's to learn the various stages of die deterioration. The same for die chips, pre-crack die impressions, etc. Too many people are always looking for the "Big Ones", instead of starting at the beginning and slowly moving towards that point.
I'm new at this but I don't know anything about this quarter can someone please help it's a 1985 p quarter.... I also have a 1999 unusual p nickel as well... I'll post pictures but they're not very good and I apologize for that...
