Nope.. that would not be a hidden clue but rather making it a bilingual coin which is not in this case
In the middle of the right picture is something that is certainly not Arab as it has the wrong orientation for arab text. I would also guess that turned around it would read something in a different script. But you already said it is not bi-lingual, so not sure.
Yes.. you are on the right track. The middle of the second picture did indeed have something unusual.
Although I do not READ teh languages, nor am I a scholar, I have seen a lot of the script... There is a REMOTE look of a character like this:

Yup.. Bao.. it means treasure and has been on almost if not all Chinese Cast Coins issued since the Tang
