Is this a DDR? Something else, or nothing at all? Thanks for your opinion. Looking at just the lettering, my initial thought was die chips.

I think this definition is best: http://cuds-on-coins.com/die-chips/
"A small piece (less than 4 square millimeters) that falls out of the die face and has no direct connection to the design rim. The missing piece leaves a void in the die face into which coin metal flows. As a result, the coin shows a featureless lump in the affected area"

You're welcome. I'm inclined to say they are all die chips but I'll see what others think.

I don't see any doubling. The die chip between the claws on the bear's left paw is often referred to as an "extra claw".

Duh! I missed the "extra claw" comment in your poll.

Would you please look at the 9's and 5 on the north side of the coin. It looks like there's machine doubling up there

I don't see it, but it doesn't matter anyway. Machine doubling, also known as mechanical doubling or strike doubling, is very common and is an artifact of the coining strike. It doesn't add any value to the coin.
