A PM with a friend reminded me I intended to reshoot this Aegina obol and never had done it. The coin is nearly as thick as it is across so I shot it with 7 focus stacked images for the obverse and 3 for the reverse. The coin is toned and quite crystallized but an earlier style while Aegina was still a sea power and was using the sea turtle (before Sparta destroyed them). Obols are harder to find than staters. When I got this one 30 years ago, no one wanted them. I did. At 1.06g the coin is more properly called a 1/12 stater. I really doubt the people of Aegina in the 5th century used the Athenian denomination names. Please post you Aegina silver smaller than the staters.
That's an impressive capture of a chubby coin. Maybe someday I'll try focus stacking. I'll have to go back to my "good" DSLR, instead of the Canon Powershot I've been using. I've become more proficient with the cheaper camera's use though and don't really want to spend the time it will take to get used to the DSLR again.
Sweet new photo, Mentor ... Hey => if it's so chubby, try getting a side-shot (just for a couple of extra bonus points) Okay sure, my example isn't super chubby (I like to think it's "average") *whatev*
