They can just stock them in their coin store, next to the Abafil cases and books. It's sure to be a big seller Maybe they should just give them to people as consolation prizes.
Coin sales always tend to slow down in the summer. So that is a factor. However, I have seen a general softening of "weaker" coins. By that, stuff that doesn't get slabbed for unknowledgable collectors and not a sought after popular coin. Examples of popular or "slabbable" coins would be coins of JC, Cleopatra, high grade owls, etc. If its not that, or a coin 40 ancient collectors REALLY want, I see weakness. Bottom line? Summer will be a great time to buy typical collector coins for ancients is my guesstimate.
Starts tomorrow, check the upcoming. I used to bid on VC auctions now and then but the past few were run by the high end dealers so starting bids were 3 figures and up.
I just got Clio'd on a rare stater as well, I only bid on 2 lots, I havent been Clio'd in a while I was starting to miss her. src -MX
maybe it is a he, a guy who is hiding behind a female name afraid if anybody found out who he was and how many coins hes sniped he might get socked in the face at the next NYINC.
Most of my wins are "snipes" too. I don't hold that bidding style against him or anyone-- I think it is the most sensible way to bid in these timed-closure auctions. "Clio" simply has a much larger budget than me. I lost my two primary targets today. Neither were won by Clio, amazingly . Maybe he already has them. There were at least two bidders more determined than me. Oh well. They were very hard to find coins but I'm sure another opportunity will arise at some point. I still have a few more targets remaining. Fingers crossed! Edited: blasted out of the water on target #3. Sigh.
I will say that as irritating as being "Clio'd" can be (we met after he bludgeoned me on a coin I badly wanted at NAC a couple years ago), he genuinely cares deeply about the coins he buys. I've never met a more enthusiastic and considerate collector, and rest assured that your underbids are going to someone who isn't just throwing them away in an investment portfolio. (And for what it's worth, I will say no more about who he is as we should all be understandably privacy conscious)
Sadly, I'm only bringing home one coin from today's auction. It just wouldn't be a CNG auction if I weren't Clio'd on at least one coin, and he won my final target. It was a consignment from AncientJoe, so at least it is going AJ's friend.
