Are CNG's estimates getting better or is the market in the doldrums? Of the first 126 lots in today's auction: 3 were withdrawn, 6 unsold, and 58 sold below estimate, MANY of them with only one bidder. I'm sorry I consigned 10 coins. I will take a painful financial hit...
Sorry to hear that, I've got some bids in on Greek stuff, already outbid on 3 and only 1 bid left in. And I thought I bid reasonably strong.
The main coins I'm shooting for are unfortunately seeing more bidding than I'd like, although still comparatively tame.
Some coins are drawing strong bids, but many more are being sold at what I consider bargain basement prices.
I am sorry you are taking a financial hit. But I bid WAY over the estimate on 3 Roman Republic coins...and the bids are currently double what I was willing to go. They are being sold for outlandish prices!
I guess RR coins are more popular now than Greek! I'm crossing my fingers. An upcoming lot has only one other example in coinarchives and I'm the only bidder. The other, comparable, example sold for about twice my bid!
Reminds of something another collector said: which coins are hot? The ones I want to buy. Which coins are cold? The ones I want to sell.
Sorry to hear that. I lost out on items that hammered at FIVE TIMES estimate!!! I bid at 3x estimate, and was decimated! Sooooo... my experience was opposite as yours. But your impact was real...sorry. Mine was only expectation loss. I was frustrated that one coin I bid heavy on, moved from an $100 bid increment to $500 increment...due to how high is was being bid up.
I very rarely bid on CNG's printed, but had a go this time. I sprayed and prayed. I went reasonably high on a few; but was still outbid. I've only won 3 lots so far out of the first 27 i bid on.
I saw your name on a couple I want... but they aren't my primary targets and I may have spent the budget before then.
I see there is a new V auction auction is that maybe interesting to buy? starting from tomorrow? any experience with that?
I don't see an active V-auction at the moment but yes, it can be a very nice place to bid. I hope they schedule another auction soon.
I was just sniped right at the wire on lot 383, my last chance to win a lot, except for the 3 I bought back to avoid more losses...
The Kyzikos staters went wild again. There were 17 offered: Total estimates: $159,500 Total PR: $224,150 not including buyer's fees
