Rhodesia's heritage is cleverly revealed with this 1968 three pence coin. Native individualality shows through as seen in the diversity of the three spears on the reverse of the coin.

And here's the heritage connection because Southern Rhodesia previously used this same individuality on its threepence coins through the years 1932-1936

    And again in 1937:

And again during the period 1948-1952:

The sixpence coins minted thtrough the years shown above have medieval battleaxes on them:

Rhodesia chose to use the same three spears on its 2 1/2 cent coins minted in 1970:

Saint John of Jerusalem authotized a 50 Tari coin in 1965: Take a long look at this beauty:

In 1996 Spain created our next entrant into our weapons on coins category with this 25 pesetas tribute to Don Quixote:

And honoring Don Quixcte on a 2005 two euro coin:

Saint Kitts and Nevis caught my eye with this 1982 $20 200 year commemorative of the Battle of the Saints, probably the only coin in our theme with two frigates battling each other except for Saint Lucia's 1982 $10 coin.honoring the same battle

Both images courtesy of World Coin Gallery:

Sweden enters our theme article with a one skilling coin they minted during the period 1819-1830:

And Switzerland's 5 Francs (1976) Battle of Murten becomes visible:

Switzerland's entire 1/2 franc, franc and 2 franc coin production features a female figure holding a spear in her right hand and leaning on a shield with her left hand. The Swiss cross adorns the shield. Here's a reprentative image:

Tokelau or Union Island authorized a commemorative coin in 1989 in the denomination of five tala to honor John Byron. Along with Byron's bust they chose to place a full view rendition of the survey ship he twice circumnavigated the world in along with Samuel Wallis. As you will see in the coin's image the name of the ship is HMS Dolphin. The reason I place this coin in the weapons on coins category is the fact that 16 HMS Dolphins have been commissioned by the British Royal Navy for battle. This ship, the ninth HMS Dolphin, was launched in 1751.It was a 24-cannon sixth-rate battle-ready naval vessel. It was decommissioned and broken up in 1777.

The Vatican is no stranger to the implements of battle. Here's two examples:

And I finish this Weapons on Coins installment with the Virgin Islands, or more sprcifically, Britiish Virgin Islands with this 1985 $20 coin because of its well srruck crossed cannons design:

    http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/coin.php?image=img/191-48&desc=British%20Virgin%20Islands%20km48%2020%20Dollars%20(1985)%20Crossed%20Cannons

Thanks as usual Clinker, you pack a lot of information in. Great theme for a series of threads.

I have always enjoyed the Southern Rhodesia coinage with weaponry. It is an interesting subject to have on the coins, since both the short and long spears, and the war clubs were used against the British in Southern Africa during the Anglo-Zulu War. These weapons, however, were not much of a match against modern firearms.
