Grats. I'm planning on getting my first gold in October, at the PNNA-Willamette show. Already saving up.

 

The intercept shield has spots for them. The page certainly doesn't look as clean but it's more complete.

 

I'm inspired. To do a type set like this, but in lower grades, say F or VF, what budget might folks envision for either? Thank you.

Yes, they are pretty rare. I met a collector on another forum that has about 5 times the number of toned gold as me. Took him a LONG time to find them all though!

 

That's half of the fun though. When you see that coin you've been looking for and you finally find it. It's like the coin talks to you. Love that feeling when you know your going to buy that certain coin. Let me know if you want to sell any of yours. I'll buy them

$1 pattern coin I think

 

J-1626 goloid metric dollar pattern, I believe. If that's what it is, the alloy is 15.3 parts gold, 236.7 parts silver and 28 parts copper (which should be on the reverse). Am I right?

In that case, budget is pretty easy. You should be able to score most of the coins at a little over melt. It is a type set, after all. The hardest part might actually be finding some of the pieces that well circulated, since $5, $10, $20 was a lot of money back when those coins were current.
