Were any of you guys aware of this type? I was not, until last week. It's a Sicilian bronze that imitates Athenian New-Style tets: similar depiction of Athena, owl standing on amphora reverse, late 2nd Century BC... These are evidently quite rare. Here is the only one at CNG, in which the cataloger (Ardy?) notes that there are none found at Coin Archives, although I did find a couple on acsearch. So far, mine seems to be the best of the bunch, condition-wise. Do any of y'all have this coin?
Sorry, JA, you have me confused with someone else. But thanks for giving me an idea for the collecting focus I've been lacking - everything .
Unknown to me. My ignorance might have made me suspect they were fakes in wrong metal but they are too small to be tet copies. Nice find.
I believe I saw that in my searches during the last couple months... I remember that I really wanted it, but passed. Dunno why I passed. RATS, should have captured it...
Interesting bronze JA... I believe I ran across an example like that on a Forum auction a while back....
