I understand the frustration and am not speaking towards what they should/shouldn't do. A post office box is a very inexpensive way to work around this problem. It also has the benefit of reducing the number of people who see coins + your address, a very nice security feature if you ask me.
Well just call them and talk to a rep. Casually ask about it. Say you thought all packages were sent signature and ask why yours wasn't. Be nice, just inquisitive. Maybe you'll get free shipping in the next invoice? Worth a shot plus you'll get your answer as to why it wasn't sent signature. Simple as that
$1600 worth of coins and $26 for postage. I think the precaution of a signature is not too much to ask for. That is sloppiness on Heritage's part.
That's the way Heritage does it. Guess it works for them. To me, that's a lot of money to be floating around.
But to them a $1600 loss isn't even like losing a penny. More like losing the lint that falls out of the pocket when you get that penny out. It's a numbers game and maybe they see it as less og an expense to have to occasionally payout a loss than pay for signature and insurance in every package.
Their insurance policies almost certainly cover their shipping, problem would be that once it is scanned as delivered that insurance will end regardless of where the post office leaves the package placing the risk entirely on the buyer
Is there any story about anyone losing a coin from Heritage shipping this way? Not really sure what the process is - I have never had an issue. I almost prefer signature required, but if they want to take the risk that is their choice. Now if I was an ebay seller I would always do signature required because of all the scam artists out there. And wish everybody would stop using heritage - maybe I could get some of the steals I keep trying for.
I was just at the PO recently. On the sign it said it costs like $2.35 for signature confirmation. I think Heritage can afford that just for the goodwill alone.
That reminds me of the time I had a $2200 musical instrument delivered by FedEx. No signature requested. Sigh.
