This is a coin I've wanted for a while. Found one I liked, at a price I liked, and had money to get it


Pontos, Amisos. Mithradates VI Eupator, 120-63 BC, AE21 (7.06gm), struck c. 85-63 BC. Aegis with Gorgoneion / Nike. SNG BM Black Sea 1177ff; BMC 25, p. 19, 69-71. Fine, adjustment marks as made.

My Mithradates vi gorgon coins, the top left was actually m first ancient coin, when I first bought it, it was crusty all over. What do these Mithridates VI pontos copper Gorgon and nike coins go for usually?

I like both of them, Randy! The second coin with the wolfskin headdress remains on the wish list but recently I found a nice aegis example.

The various cities of Pontos were very nice to ancient coin collectors and made many interesting coins that are easy on the budget. Here one of my cista mystica types...

I see that Steve and TIF have this type from Amisos. This one from Sinope arrived today, and this is as good a thread as any to put it in.
