is there such thing as an extra wide AM on a cent? This one just seems wider than others. Just curious
Any coin collector will tell you that ANY error is possible but, it depends on whther the error is known and/or recognized as such prior to being one. Your pennie may well have a wider than usual AM yet, that doesn't make it worth more or an error. I use RedBook for Error recognition. Sorry.
Looks like a hit on the bottom of your wide AM , from what I hear copper moves rather easily and that could be the explanation . But don't take my word on that . Still good eye again Sheila .
Also it's a really late die state as you can see by the top of the letters which may also play a part in it .
Die State combined with strike pressure plays a HUGE roll in the final outcome. Of the two photo's shown, my first reaction is skinny lettering vs thick lettering and not lettering placement. Skinny lettering can be the result of a clean, crisp strike while thick lettering (same design) can be the result of a worn die and/or physical wear. I expect that the differences between the two coins above has everything to do with wear/strike and not a representation of a different die variety.
