Another thought. You can buy a really appealing 3 cent in au for less than $200 a type 2 or 3 as well

Bid on a Walking liberty in MS63 to ms65, it is one of the most popular US coins.
And you can get some really clean ones (look for nice luster, NOT cleaned and with a FULL thumb on lady's left hand) for under $100.00

I hope to find a 3 cent silver trime for aabout $200. I will keep browsing, hoping for some new leads. There was one up for bid on Ebay, but right now, the bidding is out of reach.

Get him a really gemmy 44d, 43d, or 39d Mercury dime in ms67fb CAC. All can be had safely under $200 and he will have a really nice coin that he won't need to upgrade down the line for a higher grade.

But hey I may be biased.

On your question about a civil war token, sure - they are cool, attractive, and a piece of U S history.

Yes, I thought so too. Just wasn't sure that the tokens were not considered "coins" to coin purists, if there are such people. Do you understand me - how I stated it?

Well personally I consider Civil War Tokens a valid and interesting area of US numismatics. JMO:)

Good! I thought the Union ones especially might fit into a US coin collection. The Civil War is US history.

I bought an 1837 NY Feuchtwanger hard time token recently, and boy, it fits into my US coin collection (most folks won't realize it wasn't an officially issued cent piece :)
