So with all the grumbling and shouting over the Gold Mercury Dime 2016 starting to slow down, I'm wondering how do you think of the coin? Do you see it as another year in the series with lowest mintage of series? or just bullion? or what?
    (1916-D mintage = 264,000 2016-W mintage = 150,000)

I'm glad I missed out on the initial order - I used the money to complete my Dansco Franklin album, which will probably go up in value much more than the 2016 Merc. AND was much more fun piecing it together!

I think this is the one and only gold. 1st issue. I wish it would have been a proof. I think they could have done a better job at engraving too. lack of crispness in the face, and full bands is funny.....I have a sp 70...

How could this thing possibly be "part of the series?" It's not a Dime, it's the wrong size, it's not even silver. You gonna throw 15 of them into a vending machine for a Coke? You could do that with real Mercs, and receive your soda.

It's a bullion coin, and a poorly-executed one at that.

This coin is exactly what it was intended to be. Something produced by an unimaginative staff for the sole purpose of squeezing every last dime from the public.

Oh I LOVE IT!!!! It's EXACTLY like the real thing.. If your a Mercury Dime collector, you have to have one..

Wow that was difficult to type. I'm so glad I didn't waste any of my money on this thing. If I wanted a really nice one, there are couple of manufacturers in China who could do this as a slam dunk dead on ringer. Yet the original manufacturer could only make something that semi-resembles it is pretty pathetic.

I did not buy one. I considered it some months ago when they announced the series, but as time went on my interest waned and waned down into a small puddle of nil. In short, I didn't buy one.

its still a first of its kind, and a limited production. and authentic. look at the price 20 years from now...disregarding all the counterfeits?

Because, technically, it is just bullion. Plus with such a large mintage prices will soon reflect it's true nature imo

And with this sellout they will put huge numbers on the other two as well then in December they'll probably release a 3 coin set for Christmas there by upping the numbers even more. Bottom line is that they do this for 1 reason. To make money. And their gonna milk this cow for all they can.

Totally glad I bought a bunch (then sold most!) Got a free pcgs 70 plus some cash out of it. I voted commemorative, by the way.

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

What coins do we value the most?

Regular circulating coins, with the lowest mintage, correct?

I view this as a low mintage commemorative coin. It's not the original design, and it is a one-off design.

The lack of full bands seems rather disrespectful, too.

I don't believe most Mercury dime set collectors consider it necessary for a complete set.

Comparing the mintage with the 16-D is an apples to oranges comparison, even under the assumption it is "necessary" for a "complete" set.

Is there even one Mercury dime with 125,000 BU still in existence? I doubt it but if there is, I believe it might end up selling for less than the grading fee at NGC or PCGS.

I get a kick out of these threads. People have acted like children over this thing. Almost comes across as jealousy and resentment. ;) Its been blown out of proportion IMO. I'm still waiting to receive my 5.

There were 125k made. Not 150k and there has been no indication that they will make more but I'm sure that would be very entertaining for some people if they did.
The quarter and half will have much lower mintages.

Either a commemorative or bullion to me. I don't see anyway you can really argue that it should be apart of the series given all the differences.

Exactly... This was a tribute, not a continuation of a series. It's exactly like the Gold Buffalo's. How many Buffalo collectors consider those as a continuation of the series?

If it had been 90% silver and regular size I would consider it to be the latest member of the series. .999 fine gold, 1/10 oz and smaller size, its bullion.\

Except the machine would reject them.
