I was tooling around the Heritage site after our previous discussion of Mercury Dimes and conditions. I often put a bunch of lowball bids in and if I win one, I can turn over the coin. In this case, I saw one that I decided to bid more seriously on and I put a max bid in which shockingly went straight to the top of the bid, and then I won it. The problem was, that it wasn't the coin I really thought I was bidding on and I'm looking at this thing and I can't help but feel that it is over graded in an old slab. I really didn't want this coin, but I'm stuck with it. Now I'm wondering what you would grade it and what you think would be a fair market value on it. I'll say this, these Mercurys seem to flux in price quite a bit. I'm wondering how much I've been soaked by this transaction. http://www.mrbrklyn.com/coins/mercury_eisenhowser/heritage_merc_obv_2.jpg http://www.mrbrklyn.com/coins/mercury_eisenhowser/heritage_merc_rev_2.jpg __________________
MS-63 FSB - $12-15 range - less if the bands are just separated but not arches. several bag marks on the reverse, there are some marks on the lower right of the obverse near the date as well as on the wing. this was scanned on a flatbed scanner, so some of the detail is washed out, but i like it - it has character. if you paid much more than $15.00 less the fees, than this coin was graded as an MS65/66 and i would leave it be for a few months and then reconsider the purchase. i hope you didn't pay more than $25.00 less the fees. -Steve
Ruben: I really like it. There is little doubt that it is original. I'd guess from the pictures that it is an MS-63. __________________

once home and on the other monitor, i'm going to down grade it to an MS-60 - the front has more marks on it than i realized. it still looks FSB so i'd say it's worth in $7-9 range. sorry dude, it's a nice coin, but not MS-65 nice. -Steve
This is the coin I was originally trying to bid on. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=27062&Lot_No=13352#Photo It went for a very reasonable price, IMO. Ruben
That one sold for $115.00 - here is the photo. I would have went to $200.00 for it because I liked the toning.
this is proof that the grading companies are full of stuffing. i sold that coin 3 years ago after cracking it from a PCGS MS65 FSB slab. j/k -steve
That specific coin? How do you know? What do you think of this one? http://images.heritagecoin.com/images/NewNames/300/4/9/8/498426.jpg http://images.heritagecoin.com/images/NewNames/300/4/9/9/499396.jpg Ruben
Ruben I'd say the coin should grade MS64 FB, I wouldn't be surprised though if was slabbed with a higher grade than that. Anything over 65 would surprise me.
i think that is a beautiful MS-65/66. hard to tell if it's an FB or FSB, but i like it. i bet it's graded slightly higher since it's in a PCGS slab. -Steve
Ah - I was wondering where you've been today Are you talking about the first coin I accidentally seemed to have brought. Believe it or not, it is in an MS 67 NGC slab. I completely confused myself and had no intention of buying it. What was stranger was the way the bidding happened. I think there was something wrong with the auction. Ruben
Really. I've been at this for a decade plus now and never knew. I guess I just have to do a better job of keeping up. What do you think of the grade of the first one. Ruben
