Anyone ever seen anything like this? Seems three edges are cut flat but still retain ridging. Are there any specific things that would like to be seen clearer? Thanks
I assume by "ridging" you mean the reeded edge. I believe it is possible that someone could use a hammer to flatten part of the reeded edge so that the lines of each segment are still visible. I believe this is post-mint damage (PMD). Chris
I appreciate the reply. Thanks. In my mind, i would think that anything done post mint wouldn't allow the reeds to be visible but smashed/mushed rather. I'm also wondering though about the back (2-3oclock) area of the art section. It seems as if the contour of its edge is wobbly and uneven compared to say 5 oclocks position; which is even. Does that look weird to anyone? What could cause that? Thabks again.
Why don't you try it on the reeds of a quarter yourself, and see what happens. It looks to me that a hammer was used on the edge and the obverse and reverse surfaces as well. Take note of the area at 6 o'clock of the reverse below "2006" on the last photo. The edge has been flattened and shows the rim bulging inward. The reverse surfaces at 10 & 2 o'clock appear to have been flattened after the edge was flattened. There is no question that this is PMD. Chris
No.. Agree to PMD.. not an error.. no need to hold it with a tweezer since it's only worth 25c Here is a great website that can show you many of the known errors. I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/
