    Howdy,

We all know that the 2006W burnished eagles went nuts (7 fold qualifies asa nuts), but now we have the 2007W going on sale. I subscribed for 5 units, and my order took place yesterday with a backorder est. shipping date of 6/27.

Any thoughts about the aftermarket appreciation of this item? Does anyone know their announced mintage limits?

Am wondering whether to order another 5 tomorrow.

    thanks,

    rono

Have to agree with Elaine. The 2006w was (is) probably the one to get. The mint cancelled my order and I ended up buying one for $83.00. A lot more than I wanted to pay, but it may look like a bargain in the future. Guess you pay what you think it's worth!

The price jump of the 2006 W has focued everyones attention on the 2007 W, they are coming out much earliier in the year than the 2006 did, and I don't believe they have announced any mintage lints meaning they will mint to demand. You do the math. (And if it goes like issues like this normally do, first year catches people by surprise, every one jumps on the second year which flop, then in the third year everyone who got burned on the second year stays away in disgust. See 2001 proof sets.)

Everyone is pretty much blowing off the 2007W issue as not that important. Which is perfect for me, less competition. Ofcourse it won't be a repeat of the 06W, that would be silly to even contemplate but I think it will still be a strong coin.

The mint is a very busy place. It's June and the mint will start minting the 2008 bullion coin soon if it hasn't started already. Each of the 2007W has to be hand packaged one by one, it takes time. Will there be more than 490,000 ...sure will there be 600,000 or 800,000 ..maybe. One thing is for certain the mintage won't be much higher. There is no way that the W issues will compete with the populations of the business strikes. It's humanly impossible. So, yeah ..it's no 06W but it will still be a low mintage in the world of silver eagles.

You may care, you may not. If you are trying to get rich off one coin, a fool and his money is soon parted. If you are looking for long term appreciation, don't count the 07 out. You will only know how important the coin it is ...after it's already gone. I plan on taking my chances with the 07W...and the more of you that dismiss it ..the better.....carry on.

It might be a good buy to purchase a few, and have some of them grade 70

I may pick up 2, but I really do not see them doing nearly as well as the '06

I don't see them listed for sale yet on the US Mint site. It states that they go on sale tomorrow 6-13-07. If you have already ordered, can you link me the ordering page as I am considering picking up 1 or 2.

    Thanks!

You very very rarely get two key dates in a row. I would get one or two...especially if they are really high grade, but don't be suprised if you end up selling them for less or pretty much the same as you bought them.

I've never had a series-set collection, focusing mostly on type coins. I'm planning on making this
my first series collection, so I'll get a few.

I love Elaine's predictions. She truly is the harbinger of numismatics.

I love the way you guys enjoy stating the obvious ...lol.

Jerome, I'm curious about this quoate - "but don't be suprised if you end up selling them for less or pretty much the same as you bought them."

Can you name one coin, that you bought from the mint, that you sold for less than you bought it for?

I could name a thousand or so but see little sense in doing it. Take my word for it - they exist.

A LOT of products sell for less the issue in the secondary market, just to name a few...

Many proof silver eagles (say 2001)

The legacy proof sets (saw one from a Dealer once at $110 when issued at $135)

I managed to pick up the San Fransisco Mint Unc coin for $28 too (issue $33)...

Thanks for the examples, much appreciated. I was curious because nothing that I have bought from the mint has gone down. I don't collect commems and those legacy sets are just puff pieces anyway, in my opinion. I'm a little surprised to hear about the ASE proofs. Thanks again.

You should be surprised about the ASE Proofs because GDJMSP's statement is incorrect. While it is true the many Mint products sell for less then issue price in the secondary market, no ASE proofs sell for less. The Gray Sheet pricing for every ASE proof to date is higher then their original issue price.

buy whole series and prevent losses

try to buy the whole series of each kind and you can prevent losses. because each series always have a key date. and that key date always jumped high in its price. that profit can offset any losses on that series. like for example. american eagle silver proof or unc series. 1995 w gold and silver 10th anniversary set together with 2006 20th anniversary diiferent sets. and some other key dates too. can you loss money?. the only loser is that you have chosen one date and bought a lot. and that date went down. so you loss.

I plan to buy a couple to keep the sets complete, but I have no expectation that the 2007w will repeat the performance of the 2006w. It was a one-time shot.

    2006 w unc eagle series

yes, it was done for american series. no more special coin that can make a big profit. but you can try and start the series for prez dollars and spouse gold series. all other series were quite done. silver proof set, proof set, unc set, modern commems, statehood quarters, and others.
