I bought this as a VF details for $50. In hand, it looks EF/AU. I may use a darkener to mute the shinyness of the areas affected by whatever corrosive was put on her.

    Variety is S-237

You say it looks EF/AU? Really? Hmmmm, I don't know about that. Are you sure it's corrosive/PMD? It almost looks like struck thru grease. Plus, there's a nice die crack on the rev. I'd be curious to hear what others say.

    Actually, two die cracks.

That was a high xf anyway. Between the scratches the graffiti the horrid cleaning and the damage its too bad. The reverse is nice

I'm not sure where to go with that one, it just has too many problems to grade. It had XF details though.

"So, what can go wrong with a copper coin?"

"Well, here's the first half-dozen answers, all on one coin."

Terrific details. It's a shame. I don't often advocate darkener, but this might be a good time for it.

Even if the darkener worked, it would still be corroded and graffiti'd.

    What a sad coin.

This post literally made me laugh out loud. I think I might skip the darkener just to show it to people the way it is.

Darn shame about the corrosion. The reverse looked really nice.

My guess is it had some really active corrosion on top, so someone cleaned the heck out of it. Hard to say what's worse without the before pic
