Hi All! Just looking to see if anyone has any insight on the coin attached. Is there any way to research counterstamped/marked coins? We have one we are curious about. 1941 quarter, marked with P35, then another P on the head of George Washington....Thanks for any help!
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Michelle! Your quarter appears to have been counterstamped at random by someone who had nothing better to do. It may be that those punches were the only ones available to him/her. We see coins similarly marked that are posted by other members from time to time. Chris
It looks like a stamp given to machinists to stamp the pieces they just worked on . Though as Chris said it may just be someone with nothing better to do who had a set of punches . Welcome to CT .
No idea what it means, if anything. This is what I think of when I hear "P35" though: Pretty sure it's not related.
I love that pistol , though they did have terrible triggers it was one reliable 9mm and the 1st double stack iirc . Browning invented some marvelous weapons .
To some people, counterstamps are damage. To others, counterstamps represent history. Some people collect chopmarked Trade Dollars because they know the Trade Dollar served its purpose in the Orient. What do you think? I have a 1798 LC (style 2 hair I think) that has someone's initials carved into it. They're very old initials, maybe 1840s or 1850s. I love it.
My sons on his 3 year of medical school and When we talk about these kinds of issues, my question is: Is There Any Medical Proof Of Why They Think The Way They think . Drum row: Answer, NO ...............
