Here's a section that will be of interest to those who are curious about money shown in movies. This time, it is about the banknotes of the United States.
Pearl Harbor: $5.00 HAWAII overprint (even though they weren't printed until a year after Pearl was bombed)
Shawshank Redemption: $50 series 1990, DA Block, signed by Nicholas F. Brady (Anachronism!) cropped/rotated/zoom:
In the first image from Pearl Harbor, the note is not a Hawaii overprint. I thought they were when I saw it in the theater, but when I checked them by freeze framing the DVD they weren't. (Of course it is always possible they did a little image work and what you see in the theater isn't the same as what they put on the DVD.)
if you run it at regular speed, you can definitely tell the letters are there. i gotta admit though, going frame by frame the letters practically disappear. it was impossible getting a clear screenshot, so i gave up and settled for the blurry original one you see up top. here's my second attempt. it's a different frame, cropped and blown up. you can see the tops of the two I's and the A, but the W is just about invisible without zoom. i added a second picture to the left of the note with an outline of the letters in red, and added a picture of my own five for letter placement comparison.
somewhat simalar i was watchiing a 1970s game show and a contesttant won 3 thousand and he gave her 3 1 thousand dollar bills
