Here's a link; www.efipogs.com .It seems strange that the British Army Pogs are denominated in U.S. Dollars.

Steve, they are not denominated in Euro-Cents,but U.S. Cents,as the inscriptions on the pogs make a reference to U.S. Dollars.

Great Britain will not be adopting the U.S. Dollar any time soon. The U.S. Dollar has been chosen as the unofficial currency of the British Armed Forces in both Afghanistan & Iraq as a convenience measure.A lot of Americans don't even know what the Pound Sterling is,or its value in relation to the U.S. Dollar is.

Steve,it is only a convenience measure for the military clubs & canteens.I knew one guy who served 2 years in Cyprus as part of his National Service. He had access to the NAAFI canteens & clubs,& used those British Armed Forces notes. When he got back to England,he was refused service in a pub.He eventually shifted to Aussie for a few years. He now lives in the Wellington area & collects 10/- notes (& the equivilant of 10/-).

SanMiguel, did you see any of the British Army's pogs at all? They'd make a very good British Commonwealth collectable.

no, can't say i have. the vast majority of british forces are down south in basra near kuwait and the persian gulf.

i agree with convenience being the reason why the british forces, (and other coalition forces), use dollars instead of their own currency. virtually all of the support and convenience services we have out here is because of aafes, (the army & airforce exchange service). our barber shops, px, and coffee shops are all contracted through aafes. it's pretty much impossible for other countries' military units to avoid american bases, but while they're here, either passing through or staying, all these convenience facilities are open to everybody.

baskin robbins ice cream, burger king, mcdonald's, kfc, chinese restaurants...aafes takes good care of us, but they only deal in dollars.

Unfortunately the British Pogs site seems to be gone. I have been unable to get into it for a couple months now. I tried the Cashed site in Google which shows the site, but all of the images are gone.

You are right.Perhaps the people who own that website are in the process of changing hosts or are closing down,or could be doing some maintenance.
