This guy's either insane or thats a misprint, must be $4.50.
There is no 1964 SMS and the 64 unc in ms 65 goes for .80 cents in the red book

I contacted the seller about the item in question. I told him that the mint didnt make special mint sets in 1964 and his 1964 nickel was worth about 5 cents. We'll see what he says. $450 dollar starting bid is not only insane buy should be against Ebays code of ethics and should be removed in my opinion. But, Ebay's out to get the mighty dollar so there it'll no doubt stay. Even $4.50 is very high for a circulated 1964-P nickel with a mintage of 1,028,622,762. Thats over 1 billion!!!

There were SMS sets made, but that nickel is worth 5 cents, lol. Move the decimal 2 points to the left and you've got a deal.

Think someone is trying to prove that you can sell "a piece of string on Ebay". The nickel is probably the 2nd ugliest coin I have ever seen. Think that colorized buffalo gold coin that someone posted a while back may edge it out but not by much. 95.1 positive feedback.... fascinating.

No, not yet. My guess is either he wont at all or he'll get defensive with his reply.

Ok, I didnt realize there were any that year. I bet the ones that do exist come with a pretty hefty price. If it did happen to be an SMS nickel, which it isnt, why would someone break it from the set. That would be completely stupid IMO if there were only 15 to 25 known sets.

Heritage Numismatic Auctions sold a complete 1964 set certified by PCGS. The sale in November 2003 brought $21,245, including buyer's fee.

OK, originally I sent a message to the guy telling him they didnt make Special Mint Sets in 64, I have been corrected on this by one of our members here that they did in fact make 15 to 25 of these. Anyway, the guy thats selling this nickel replied to me today through Ebay and said the following: "Yes, they did. Check with PCGS as well as the mint again. I checked with them, when I bought this coin several years ago from an estate sale for $650.00." cj

Hmm... I still believe the opinion I made about this nickel earlier. Why in the world would someone break apart a 1964 SMS if they produced 25 or less of these. Wouldn't they be worth more money if they were left intact. That would only make sense to me. How would you really prove that the nickel came from a very rare SMS set if its being sold by itself. I dont think that you can.
