I wonder if this Apollodotus bronze might be real or a fake? If real, then how much would it be worth? I would appreciate any help!
To me, it looks real enough. Don't know much about value, but you can always look at Vcoins and take half of the amount asked there.
Hi Mild Mould ! Your coin looks generally OK, i would judge it as genuine. You might see these offered at all sorts of prices from dealers who do not specialize in these. I would estimate a realistic price for this one to be around 30-35 dollars. Here one of mine:
I would agree with THCoins. Due to soil conditions, a lot of times copper coins from here will come looking a little "funny". Perfectly natural for these.
This is my first Indo-Greek coin... BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom Eukratides I Megas. Circa 170-145 BC. Æ Quadruple Unit (22 mm, 7.66 g, 12h). Obv: Diademed and draped bust right Rev: The Dioskouroi, holding palm fronds and spears, on horses rearing right Ref: Bopearachchi type 19; SNG ANS 551 Agreed on my bronze looking "funny" or different from this area vs. my other AE coins... Thanks for the comment @medoraman
It looks good to me, and a nice example, too. Here is my Apollodotus I. 174-165 BC, Quadruple Unit. Obv: BASILEWS APOLLODOTOYSWTHROS, Apollo, radiate, standing, facing, holding arrow and resting bow on ground. Rev: Kharosthi legend, Tripod, RM Monogram at lower right. 7.5 gm., AE22 mm., BMC 17; BOP, 6F; SNG ANS 359-363; MIG 209q Baktria
I'm glad everyone seems to believe it's genuine @Mild Mold (and Welcome!!!) because that's my opinion as well.... Great posts everyone!!
