Got mine in the mail today. Original thought was to flip it but after eBay fees and shipping I would net less than $50. For that I'll just keep it. I don't own any gold except for a 1/20th ounce Australian Gold Dinkum Koala I purchased for my wife several years ago. This might make a great Birthday or Xmas gift for my daughter. I know she'll love it. Macro photo shows a spot on the chin from the plastic capsule. Coin is flawless.
From another forum: "Keep an eye out guys, My order arrived today, and one of mine has about a 20% rotated die. Probably not a big deal as I don't think they add much value unless they are rotated more than that." https://www.reddit.com/r/Silverbugs/comments/4gkalx/look_what_came_in_the_mail_today/
Wow the mint should be ashamed of themselves imo no split bands is one thing but that lack of detail in the hair and wings on the cap is ridiculous for the premium these were sold at.
I also hope it's just a postprocessing/imagery irregularity and not as poor a rim treatment as it looks.
Tried to take some photos of the best one of my coins hair/feather details. Still believe the mint should be ashamed as apparently minting technology has gone backwards in 100 years...
It seems like every coin I got has a slight die rotation <10% but if the mint didn't care enough to watch for this perhaps someones going to receive a really significant one.
Actually, I think that they're quite beautiful. The coins have depth in their strike and although not razor sharp it is a fitting tribute to the coin it is representing. Just my humble 2 cents
It's not a horrible looking coin but compare one to a 2008 1/10 oz gold fractional buffalo and look at the difference in detail and that's from shrinking a design down even more so than they had to do with the Winged Liberty design.
Was a bit stupid that I didn't order mine. Totally forgot when it was going on sale . They actually look pretty awesome...
Probably also from detail loss in the scanning process of a dime into the computer ad the the software manipulation that had to be done to create the computer cut hub. Even then the mint spokesman said the cutting heads used weren't fine enough to get the small details.
Got mine in the mail today. Beautiful coin in my opinion (even with the lack of FSB). Since we got 2 more coins coming out in the series I really don't think the price will drop much. I will be getting one of each for my collection.
Got mine today. The coin is beautiful but the plastic capsule is warped so bad that it will not close. Wonder how that passed QC. Oh well not a deal breaker and I'm obviously not returning it.
2016 Mercury gold dime priced at $205.00 each. By using the eagle proof price to calculate. Standing gold quarter should be at least price at $545.00 and walking Liberty gold half at $1,125.00.
This has already been posted multiple times but the mint released a different pricing grid for these centennial coins https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2016-04-15/pdf/2016-08702.pdf
