D/D or just MD as some of the letter show MD. If just MD, question is how could the small mint mark have more MD than the much bigger letters? S20160425_0006.jpg S20160425_0005.jpg S20160425_0004.jpg S20160425_0003.jpg

The mm seams to have die deterioration. The peripheral lettering has md. My best guess, the mm has md also but the peripheral lettering got the most action, being farther away from the center of the die.

Perhaps you can answer this question. How can some letters on a coin display evidence of machine doubling while others do not?

If you can answer this question, then you should also be able to understand why some letters may show signs of machine doubling while others show signs of die deterioration.

I'm not trying to be a wise guy! I'm trying to help you understand.
