Hi, I have a question on the IN in the IGWT it is flatter than the rest of the letters. What would cause that worn out die or something. I see that on a few coins and just wanted to make sure it was nothing special. Thanks have a great day.
From what I see, its usually grease filled to a point where the devices are less filled out and appear flatter.
I did a little browse through some old photos - Some earlier photos before my shoebox setup. But for your reference. Look at your specimen, especially the WE in IGWT. On my specimen, the doubling is obvious. But this is what to look for on the LD copper specimens.
Thanks so much I am going to a dealer in town and see if he can show me a DD so I can see it in person.
Well that was a waste of time other than me getting a loupe. I came home and I do not even need my glasses to see everything. He mainly deals with silver coins and error coins. I told him I talk to you guys on Coin Talk and he said that was the best way to go which I already knew. Thanks everyone.
You already found out what I was going to post. Most coin store owners, and their employees, don't deal in error coins and have limited knowledge and less experience, so they are not a good source. As you found out, CoinTalk is probably your best bet, or a coin show that has known error dealers. Good luck
How big is the area you live? Is there another coin shop near you? Once you see a Doubled Die, they are hard to forget, I still encourage you to see one in hand.
Cincinnati Ohio which is a big city. They have a big coin shop about 30 min away that deals with error coins also, maybe I need to make a run there. The guy at the above just was interested in mainly silver coins. Thanks so much.
It would be worth your time to make this trip. You’re under no pressure to buy anything but take some cash with you. I have found a few coins that as soon as I see them they are calling my name. I haven’t figured out how they do that but they do.
Is it because I might spend more or my they have my name and address just curious because I wonder if I should.
You’ll spend more than you should. And best not to have a record of what you are buying with the credit card company.
On top of the credit card company knowing what you are purchasing, further, many places I've visited will not allow debit OR credit on precious metals of any kind.
