Hi all, Here we have a denarius with more than one globe. coin has 3 (2 1/2) Reference. RIC 201 error coin Obv. HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS Laureate bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder. Rev. COS III Star with 6 rays within crescent resting on double globe. 3.2 gr 18 mm 6h
That's a gorgeous coin, Oki => certainly worthy of its own thread (very cool) ... six rays on the double globe? (I need more info) Oh, there are two globes/Earths ... sorry, I get it
Maybe it's a RIC shortcoming. Some RIC 201s have no globe, some have one globe, and at least one (yours) has two globes. I hope you find a three-glober .
gawd TIF, do you know nothing about coins?!! => I'm pretty sure that it's pronounced Tri-Globular (c'mon!!) jokes ... hey, I hope that you two coiners are having a great Saturday!!
Funny how everything was about the "crescent" back then ... many of the Roman obverses were shown on a "crescent" (kinda interesting) ... well, kinda interesting to me anyway ... but as you know, I can be easily amused
It would be nice to know what was in the mind of the person who cut the die. I'd never call this an error but rather a variation but not knowing if those dots are intended to be design (planets?) or workshop code of some sort makes any comment a guess.
Hello Doug, according to Curtis, the globe represents the Universe (i thought earth) so that why i think its an error. or three globes like COS III maybe? 1e explanation that came up to me. br eric
Actually, it looks like you have a smaller, third globe embedded in the lower right curve of the crescent. Maybe you could call it a two-and-a-half glober . Edit: oh, what Carthago said.
yah, I know ... but I was merely crackin' wise (maybe I should mind my p's and q's a bit more?) This place is starting to get a bit outta hand ... I'm blaming Oki
Do you have the coin in hand? The images have me thinking it looks base metal rather than silver but that could just be the photography. The edges look slightly odd too for a struck coin but it could well be my mind playing tricks.
It's silver and not fouree as i first was thinking maybe. this was a original picture with green background, that makes it look maybe a bit green.
