Hi, this is my first posting on this website.
I wonder if anyone has any idea of the origin of a medallion I have had for years.

It is approx. 70mm in diameter, and 5mm thick. it appears to be made of the same material as English penny coins.

One one side is an image of a woman in Roman/Greek style clothing, knealing down to light a lamp.

Around the edge is the following Latin inscription:-
E TENEBRIS TANTIS TAM CLARUM EXTOLLERE LUMEN QUI POTUISTI.

At the bottom is the inscription:-
    CONSOCII ET DISCIPULI GRATULANTES

And in Roman Numerals, the date 1841.

On the other side is the engraving of a mans bust, with the word
    BRODIE imprinted vertically.

Any info gratefully received, Dave. dave@g0gkh.freeserve.co.uk
