I haven't studied the halves at all, but if this was a capped bust quarter with that type of look and wear I'd say AU53. Also, nice color. I don't know if the same problem exists with PCGS on the halves, but I don't trust their grades at all on bust quarters. They are all over the place and they don't understand grading nuances with varieties. I've found that NGC is much more consistent and knowledgeable of the market on the series.
I'm at au 50. Pcgs said either questionable color or cleaned I do believe it market acceptable surfaces tho not original
Just wondering - IF PCGS quoted "questionable color" or "cleaned" then wouldn't that be also "DETAILS" on their slab label?
As I said earlier, there is a lot of luster not camptured by the pictures. PCGS said AU details, questionable color. My grade is AU-55, problem free. Bill Fivaz, when I showed this to him at my coin club, said it was an AU-58. There are no hairlines to indicate a cleaning, and if it was dipped, it was a long time ago. There is no blast white on this coin; the lightest color is a light gold, which is to be expected with natural toning.
This type of thing is why I will no longer submit any coins for grading and have mostly moved to ancients. TPGs are just being too picky or want to push you to resubmit.
Cleaned or questionable color.......a coin I wouldn't mind having in my collection. PS: Not seeing the cleaning. And as to the color, I've seen rain puddle oil slicked ASE's grade clean by this, and other grading services. I wonder if these guys have a rejection quota they have to submit by the end of the month?
I bet it would straight grade at some point, but who's willing to pay those resubmission fees? I don't think it's been cleaned or AT'd.
