It seems like all my fun buys come in waves. These all just came in today! This coin has a clash on the Indian's neck. This is fairly common on the 1908, but I do not remember seeing many (if any) on a 1911. Next comes this coin, with a double date variety. I have not seen many of these either, and will probably get it graded. It also has a little color! This is the second of these (1861 medallic error) I have.. my other is unc details, lightly cleaned.
Lastly is this toned $1 gold. I paid a premium for the color, and will probably get it graded. I do not collect as many $1 coins as $2 1/2... what is everyone's thought on genuine or not?
Those are fantastic finds! Gold errors are especially interesting to me as well, they all seem more unique...I'm not sure if errors on gold coins happened less frequently or maybe since fewer gold coins were struck compared to silver & copper they just aren't as available. Love how special they feel in any case, and yes, that medallic alignment is very interesting indeed. Since you have 2 from the same year, I can't help but wonder if it's just from inadvertently rotated dies or if some could have been intentionally minted that way.
