Was the mintage on that one 125K?

With the near instant sell out of the dime I doubt the quarter mintage will be under 100K. Probably at lest the sme 125K of the dime and it wouldn't surprise me if it was even higher.

I doubt they sold out just don't have enough of them made.

This happened with the 2015 Gold Liberty High Relief. Dealers were telling me they were sold out when the mint just said unavailable.

However, some dealers will tell you it's sold out to turn a quick buck. I've caught several dealers like that, they tell me oh its sold out, I pull out my phone and show them I can purchase directly from the mint at a cheaper price. They usually are not too happy with me about that either. But then they go to their computers and buy more of them to flip.

It happened with the kennedy's and the 2015 Gold Liberty are my most recent examples.

@FOX85 they are likely sold out the mint uses back ordering for coins that aren't minted yet but available as part of the total mintage so they can still sell them and then process orders as they are minted. When a product goes to unavailable it's generally because the maximum mintage has been sold. Now a few usually become available after that as orders get cancelled, duplicates cancelled, etc but those usually go very fast as well and aren't in significant numbers.

Go to the mint website and try to buy one... then tell me if it's sold out or not

In fact, no. They sold these to order and the interest was so small that less than 20,000 coins sold in both UNC and Proof.

Yet, these coins sell routinely near $1000 today.

So possibly not a good comparison to the sellout of a coin with six times the mintage.

my point to Spock was that you shouldn't dismiss these so quickly. When a classic design was offered in the past in a size close to the actual coin, it became a collector coin and still (8 years later) commands a premium. In that regard, it is a very near if not direct comparison.

I do read . Your friend decided to spend over $61,500 on 300 coins to possibly make $7500.

I am still calling BullS on ONE person getting 300 pieces. I would pay $1000 to see a pile of 300 of these in one persons hand within the first release let alone a "friend's". Unless he is the guy paying the people +$25 then there is almost no way for someone to line up 30 purchases of 10 coins with no one else getting anything from doing it. I don't know if you have ever tried to order from the mint but it is not easy to even get the minimum order for a high interest item.

Weird. My order status says processing. It does have the mercury dime in the order but the price shows 0.00. On this order I also ordered the 2016 proof set and 2016 silver proof set and order total only shows $89.85. Sure hope I get the 2016 gold Mercury Dime but I am having my doubts now.

When I spoke to the Mint today, they said that the order will say "processing" until tomorrow.

I received email confirming my order. You might check your email to know if your order went through.

Did you order when the coin showed back ordered because that's generally what happens with back ordered products from the mint.

Thanks guys. It didn't say backordered when I ordered it. I got an initial email right when I ordered at 1220 eastern time. I was at work and got busy and missed ordering it right away. Also got an email at 1358 Central time confirming my order with all the items on it and a order total of $294.85. Order status on the website has all 3 items in it with no price for the Mercury dime. I guess it just needs to process the order before the total goes on. My credit card has only been charged $89.85 for only the proof sets so far.
Here is the email I got a little while ago confirming my order.

It wouldn't be difficult to acquire hundreds of these coins with some thought and a system.

I got (5) and wish I bought 10 but anyway I got lucky and got it without crashing. I look into Coin World and they said it was sold out and they got it from the US Mint.
