    Adian,
Believe me I probably can't afford it either. I've basicly been on the sidelines rebuilding my "coin buying cash reserves" since I bought this coin earlier this year.
In adding addtions to my "World Gold" collection, I have now taken the position of buying quality and not quantity ... which generally means spending more per coin. I have several key coins I'm looking for at this time and yes they are for the most part rather expensive. :( :( but, my goal is to build a world class "World Gold" collection and I must accept market conditions/prices.
But I'm very deligent in my search for good value and above all ...PATIENT for the right coin to come along. (Thanks to counseling from my mentor, GDJMSP.)

$100 was the most. the 2006 three piece silver eagle set. And it makes me very happy that the reverse coin alone is going for 400 bucks.

1914-D one cent PCGS or NGC MS70. Its a dream but it may exist.

I paid $80 plus shipping for a 'godless' dollar and also paid about $48 for slabbing, but I was lucky and got the triple error, struck through, die clash and smooth rim. I am keeping it for a couple of years till the final mintage and rarity are established.

John,Bill Lampard did have a nice lot of hammered English gold coins in his collection, which he consigned to an Aussie auctioneer a few months before his death in 2004.They were sold in early 2005.He showed me the coins himself.I can still recall being blown away & floored by the coins that he had.

This is probably my favorite ($50 PCGS PR70DCAM) and one that was hard to track down as it was the lowest minted coin since the 1915 PanPac. Finding it in PR70 was very elusive since even though it's a pop 14, no one who had one wanted to give it up so I was delighted to track one down just last month. :)

Yes, they should have been at LEAST SGS Pr-90.

Well it certainly would give clarity to their grading to find out they use a 0-100 scale. :rolling:

$240 on a 1914D AU55 five dollar indian head gold coin. Of course that was a few years back. Gotta be one of my favorite coin designs of all time.
    Guy~
