I was looking through my older coins and noticed the mint mark looked different. I see what I believe to be doubling but I don't know about there ever being D/S. Any thoughts?? P_20160419_122217_LL.jpg P_20160419_122217_LL.jpg

I personally cannot tell from the images...too blurry. Cherrypickers Guide doesn't list a D over S, nor do I see a listing on CONECA's master list for 1970. Probably just PMD...the D took a hit

One must remember that the cherry pickers guides are far from an absolute variety reference, and there are many, many, many genuine varieties that are not, nor ever will be, listed. With that said though, the anomaly on the OP coin certainly does appear to be nothing more than a hit.

There are online sources that are have hundreds of varieties that aren't listed in the "Cherrypickers Guide". I agree with the others though. PMD

Yep! If the CPG listed every variety for every denomination/date/mintmark, the book would probably weight about 25 pounds.

If for every type and denomination, you forgot to add a zero at the end.... ;)

I'm just guesstimating, but I do have an 8-volume set of biographical data for medallic artists that has more than 5,000 pages and it weighs a little more than 15 pounds.

I don't know... and certainly didn't think it would really be 250lbs. Was only meant as a joke due to the insane number of exceedingly minor, yet nonetheless genuine, varieties known.

Books, what is really a joke is the outrageous number of collectors who think that the itsy-bitsy, teeny-weenie varieties that you mention are really worth something.

You really want to go there..... ;)

"Worth" as in worthwhile money, you're absolutely right. But if the "worth" they find in such coins is enjoyment, so be it.

Yeah, I want to go there! If that is so, why do so many of them ask, "What's it worth?":meh::meh::meh::meh::meh:

Yes, agreed. It was just the place I stsrted, coz it was sighting right next to me. VarityVista was next, because the master listings are pretty extensive. Haven't checked coppercoins.Com tho.

Man... I can't argue against that even if I wanted to. Unfortunately, the "what's it worth" crowd seems to outnumber those with a genuine interest in many different areas these days.

I wonder how long it will be before one of them asks how much added value can be attached to a road rash coin with a 7-Eleven provenance.

No, no, no... that's not roadrash; it's a super duper, ahem, "mint error" worth millions! Maybe then they can make 300 youtube love videos showing their precious find in every light but flattering, and tell stories of how they turned down a certainly legitimate offer of hundreds of thousands of times its actual worth.... not like we haven't seen that happen before. ;)

As long as they keep it on UTube, I don't care, but when they bring it here saying, "SEE! I told you so!" we should "Out" them immediately.

The itsy bitsy teeny weenie ones are my favorite. I like the ones everyone else misses.
